FAQs
For Alliance G2 polymeric sand to set properly, the application must occur when the temperature is above 32∘F(0∘C). Additionally, for non-overlay (drainage base) systems, the sand needs at least one hour of dry, rain-free time after water activation, while overlay (non-drainage) systems require 24 hours of dry, rain-free time after activation.
It is generally recommended to wait 60 to 90 days after new paver installation before applying an Alliance hardscape sealer. This waiting period allows the pavers to fully settle, release any efflorescence (white mineral salts) that may be present, and thoroughly dry. Sealing too early can trap moisture and salts beneath the surface, leading to a hazy finish.
Alliance offers specialized products designed for use with permeable paver systems. Standard polymeric sands and film-forming sealers are not suitable, as they block the flow of water. Look for specific Alliance products formulated for permeable applications, which maintain the necessary large joint size and water infiltration capacity required by the permeable system.
Water-based sealers are low-VOC, offer a more natural look, and are generally easier to clean up (with water). Solvent-based sealers typically offer deeper color enhancement (a “wet look”), penetrate deeper into the stone, and often provide a more durable or glossy finish. It is critical to know which type was previously applied, as a water-based sealer cannot be successfully applied over a solvent-based sealer.
