FAQs
To remove a failing coat, you must use a dedicated sealer stripper (remover) formulated for hardscapes. The process involves saturating the surface with the stripper, allowing it to “dwell” for 10-15 minutes (reapplying to keep it wet), and then agitating the surface with a stiff-bristle broom or flat-surface pressure washer cleaner. The surface must then be thoroughly rinsed while the stripper is still wet, and the process may need to be repeated for complete removal.
Techniseal HP NextGel polymeric sand is widely recommended for use with natural stone (as well as pavers and porcelain tiles). HP NextGel is an advanced, high-performance product that is formulated to be “no haze,” meaning it significantly reduces the risk of polymer binders leaving a white film on the often-porous surface of natural stone after installation and activation.
The coverage rate varies based on the product and the porosity of the material being sealed. Generally, for a first coat on a standard porous concrete paver, a wet-look or film-forming sealer will cover approximately 100 to 150 square feet per gallon. Subsequent coats will typically cover more area (150–200 sq ft/gallon) because the material is already partially sealed. Always check the specific product data sheet.
To ensure proper installation and curing, the pavers’ surface and joints must be completely dry before applying the sand. As a safety measure, it is generally recommended to wait until the joint material is dry to the touch for at least 24 to 48 hours after the last rainfall. This ensures the polymeric sand can properly slide into the joints and be compacted densely before activation.
